Orcas Island Doe Bay Getaway

Last week was my 32nd birthday, and the 10th anniversary of the day Phil and I first met, so he and I headed out to Orcas Island for the first time to kick back and explore for a couple of days. If you've never been, you have to go. Put it on your bucket list. I don't know if I've ever slept so soundly or felt so entranced by a place so quickly. My advice? Make Doe Bay your home base, eat at Brown Bear Baking (holy crap, so good!) and give yourself lots of time. We only had two days and while that was definitely nice, it was not enough.

The sea was moody the whole time we were there, which only added to the magic of the place. This trip brought back memories of how much I used to romanticize the rain before I moved to Washington. For me, melancholy weather makes room for wonder and replenishes my spirit.
